The Astonishing Race 4 is the quaternary installment of the American reality telly evidence The Amazing Race. The show features twelve teams, divided in pairs ordinarily based on pre-existing relationships. These teams then race around the world. Flavor 4 premiered on May 29, 2003 and concluded on August 21, 2003.

Development and filming [edit]
The quaternary season of The Amazing Race spanned 44,000 miles (71,000 km) beyond four continents with previously unvisited locations in Netherlands and Republic of korea. Filming for the bear witness began on January 18, 2003 and finished on February xiv, 2003.
This was the final season where ties at the finish were allowed at the mat (and the subsequent distribution of additional first place prizes should there be a tie for commencement place). In subsequent seasons, even if several teams arrived at the mat on the same fourth dimension, a chronological gild would be adamant and the official check-in times for teams arriving simultaneously would be set a infinitesimal apart to avoid ties. This was likewise the last season where the Fast Forward appeared in every leg. This flavor had a tape of nine teams finishing first at some point, with a tape of seven Fast Frontward claimed.
During the final leg of the flavor, David & Jeff were stranded in Sydney, Australia (thinking that they could get a faster flight to Hawaii through Sydney) for so long that they were not able to reach the final part of the leg in Phoenix, Arizona. Along with Joe & Bill of Season 1, they are one of only two teams in Amazing Race history to reach the final leg but not cross the End Line.
Cast [edit]
This season's cast included a gay married couple, NFL wives, female person models, clowns, and air traffic controllers. "NFL Wives" Monica & Sheree were respectively married to Ashley Ambrose and Ray Buchanan, both of whom played for the Atlanta Falcons the flavor before the television series was filmed.[ii] [3]
At the time the show was filmed and broadcast, aforementioned-sexual activity marriage had not nonetheless been made legal in the United States. Reichen & Chip were never legally married, although they were married in a religious ceremony. CBS decided for the purpose of the show to respect the fact that they recognized themselves as a "married" couple. Not long after the season concluded, Reichen revealed that he and Flake had separated.[4]
Future appearances [edit]
No team from this season has competed on a subsequent returnee flavour.
In 2005, Reichen appeared on a "Reality All-Stars" episode of Fearfulness Gene and was eliminated after the second stunt.[5] Monica & Sheree, at present both divorced, appeared on Atlanta Exes in 2014.[6]

In 2004, this installment of The Amazing Race won the serial its 2nd consecutive primetime Emmy Laurels for "Outstanding Reality Competition Plan".

This leg's Detour was a option between Saddle or Paddle. This season'southward final Detour was a choice between Wing It or Wander It. In Wing It, teams had to skydive x,000 feet (3,000 m) in tandem with an instructor to attain their adjacent clue in the skydive landing zone. In Wander Information technology, teams first collection to a mangrove forest to find a gunkhole, which they used to navigate out the wood and reach the designated skydive landing zone to retrieve their next inkling.
In this season's final Roadblock, one team member had to swim out to a floating tiki head, so dive to think a particular stone from the sea floor. They then carried it back to the beach and smashed it open for the inkling inside.

- At the beginning of the leg, teams were told to head to Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, where they (forth with a tribal guide) observed an Aboriginal ceremony with burn down. In the ceremony, at that place were a series of torch signals conveying three traditional messages that they could use to receive the next clue.
- Upon arrival on the island of Hawaii (known equally "Big Island"), teams had to choose a marked car and drive themselves to the southernmost point of the United States, Kaulana Bay, to get their adjacent inkling.
- Afterward the Roadblock, teams were sent to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, where they followed a marked path over a bed of volcanic rock to get their next clue.
- At Sun Devil Stadium, teams had to solve the riddle: "Happy Valentines Day + White + White". The solution was institute by converting each part of the clue to a number. "Happy Valentine's Day" (Feb fourteen, or ii/fourteen in American date format) converts to "214", while "White + White" referred to the retired numbers of two players with the surname "White" written on the stadium's wall – 33 (Wilford "Whizzer" White) and 11 (Danny White). Teams combined this information, using it to locate a particular seat in department 214, row 33, seat 11, which contained their final clue.
- At Papago Park, teams first had to ride a pair of bikes on a marked path and and so run to the Terminate Line.

Compared to the first iii seasons which were positively received, The Amazing Race 4 received more mixed reviews. Linda Holmes of Idiot box Without Pity wrote "I loved a lot of things near the season, but that ending blew."[8] Heather Havrilesky of Salon wrote that "'The Amazing Race' has always been an imaginative and well-produced show, simply this year's lineup of couples has offered more hilarious calamities and personality clashes than usual."[9] Kareem Gantt of Screen Rant wrote that "season iv may not have had a cast that was particularly likable, merely it did visit some cool locations".[10] In 2016, this flavor was ranked 22nd out of the first 27 seasons by the Rob Has a Podcast Amazing Race correspondents.[11]
